Creating an accessible home doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Below, we’ll highlight some of the basics to help you get started. Welcoming Home Entrances Many homes have stairs leading to their access points. To make them accessible, it’s important to have wheelchair ramps with handrails. Make sure the door width is a minimum of 32 inches. Accessibility in the sense considered here refers to the design of products, devices, services, or environments so as to be usable by people with disabilities. The concept of accessible design and practice of accessible development ensures both 'direct access' (i.e. Unassisted) and 'indirect access' meaning compatibility with a person's assistive technology (for example, computer screen readers).
